What’s the fastest and most expensive cars on the street. Also, find out why some of these idiots don’t need to be driving such a fine piece of machinery.
When I started compiling this list of ultimate vehicles of 2007, I had to consider a few things when judging them. Ultimately the best measure is speed. Not top speed, but the start from the Christmas tree taking the quarter mile. After all isn’t that the way we measure up vehicles from stop light to stop light. Then I came into a quandary, some of the vehicles posted similar quarter mile times. Then cost comes into play. If I can get the same performance while spending less of my cash, well hell yes! If you want a status symbol don’t look to this article. Sure there are some cars in here that say I am the man, but it’s knowing your vehicle that sets a true car aficionado apart from some dweeb with more money than brains.
Note: all information is from the year 2007 when the article was first published
2. 2007 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
Top Speed : 223 kph/139 mph
Price : $555,000
Featured in the movie Bruce almighty starring Jim Carrey, this car is custom fit to buyer.
3. 2004 Porsche Carrera GT
Top Speed : 214 kph/133 mph
Price : $440,000
Ok, we know it’s Porsche’. However, spending this kind of cash I would correct those ignorant bastards too.
4. 2003 Ferrari Enzo
Top Speed : 214 kph/133 mph
Price : $643,330
Made famous by some idiot wrapping it around a pole in Southern California. On the good side, since the production run was so low it boosted the resale price of the remaining Enzos.
GT
Top Speed : 210 kph/131 mph
Price : $139,995
Finally Ford comes out with a vehicle worthy of american pride. Too bad they only released it in a single year and priced it out of all but a select few.
6. 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Top Speed : 204 kph/127 mph
Price : $72,660
GM does it again. Or should I say over and over again. The Corvette has been in the GM stable since 1953. The vette has maintained a reasonable price to power ratio throughout the years and looks to continue this trend. Thanks GM, keep it up!
7. 2005 McLaren Mercedes SLR
Top Speed : 204 kph/127 mph
Price : $450,000
Mercedes culled the talents of McLaren to create this beast. Combined with Mercedes styling and reputation this car looks the part of an updated 300SL. You know, Hugh Hefner’s favorite car.
8. 1997 McLaren F1
Top Speed : 201 kph/125 mph
Price : $890,000
Hey, these guys do build race cars. Years of know how in the formula one racing circuit translates to a growling street animal that bears respect.
9. 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10
Top Speed : 197 kph/123 mph
Price : $83,145
Dodge’s answer to high performance. Excellent looks and even smarter marketing. The Corvette contender shows that Ford still doesn’t have a clue when it comes to making an affordable sports car.
10. 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago
Top Speed : 196 kph/122 mph
Price : $279,900
You can be just like Bam Margera. No wait! That dumb ass carved the roof out of his! Maybe it will increase the value of the other Murcielagos out there like the Enzo death did. I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Addendum.
The Ford guys are steaming about my harsh words for Ford not presenting a respectable sport coupe. Not since the Ford GT40 has Ford attempted a sport coupe. What about the new Thunderbird? It’s a respectable car equipped with a supercharged v-8. Sorry, didn’t make the list. Unlike the Corvette and Viper, Ford doesn’t produce a sports car of the same caliber. Ford is capable of doing this, their management just chooses not to. Another car on the list, the Saleen S7, boasts a Ford derived engine. The next question is about the new Mustang, specifically the ROUSH Mustang($41,706). People, when you can buy a plain-jane Vette($41,170) or Viper($73,822) and not have to make any modifications to the car, why would you spend extra money on the Mustang improving the performance. The Mustang is an affordable muscle car. Remember it’s history, it was meant to be an affordable sporty vehicle for the family. It was originally built off the Ford Falcon uni-body frame. The new Mustang is a departure from this. I like the new Mustang but it competes with the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Charger. All respectable cars but not supercars.
If you think this is bias, I will bet you that all the Honda, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan folks are upset too. Mercedes took the challenge of building a super car seriously and Porsche has prided itself on being in this market. With time the stats will change as the manufacturers change their line-ups. Every manufacturer should have one mass produced premier vehicle showcasing their dominant designs and ideas. This is costly to the manufacturer and that’s why some choose not to.
All speeds listed in quarter mile times.
